Intervarsities 2005

The 2005 Intervarsities were held in UCD in February. This is a competition between the university fencing teams in Ireland and is always a fun competition with a lot of competitive spirit, drunkeness, general fun and occassionally scandel and debauchery. On the piste the Ladies Sabre Team came second, Maoliosa came second in the individual sabre rankings. The Ladies Foil Team also came second. Unfortuanately the men's teams weren't so sucessful against strong teams from the other universities but competed with much spirit.

Off piste UUC fencing kept up our strong social tradition of being the last ones home and propping up the bar. Lots of practice in the union resulted in lifting the Boat Cup, an award for the fastest two pints drunk by a club.

Colours Award 2005

The Colours Awards were held in May in Belfast. These celebrate sporting acheivements in sport in the University. From the Fencing Club Neil Curran and Al Davidson received service awards for the website and coaching respectively. Maoliosa Donnelly received half-colours, Chris Shields and Donna Lecky received Club Awards for more than two years service A crowd of other fencers also went up to lend their support and have a good night out.

End of Year BBQ

The traditional end of year BBQ was held at Chris's house where he is the master of fire and hot charcoal (and makes very good marinades, and salads and stuff). Unfortunately he is not the master of the weather but never the less a good time was had by all. See you all next year!!

Winton Cup 2005

The Winton Cup is a national competition which was held in Stoke-on-Trent in April. This year the Ladies Sabre Team consisting of Maoliosa, Sheila and Donna was reunited under the Northern Ireland banner. Chris Shields fenced in the Mens Foil, while Kristina fenced in both the Ladies Epee and Ladies Foil. Our coach, Chris Gill managed the team. Overall the NI team came third.

Post Intervarsity Dinner

The post intervarsity dinner was held in March. This is a UUC dinner to thank all the members for competing in the Intervarsities and is just another excuse for a booze up. An element of competition was added in the form of a Lasagne War between Chris, John and Kristina, this ended in a draw but possibly only because Kristina was managing to keep up, if not out pace the guys! It was a long night ending up in the Montague
