Karen Cooper

Karen was president of UUC fencing club from 1999 to 2003 when she completed her PhD. During that time she captained the Ladies epee team at various intervarsities and participated in the Winton Cup. The highlight of her fencing career at UUC was competing as part of the Five Nations Team in 2003.

Since leaving UUC she worked in Belfast producing 'The Little Book of Stuff' for young people. In September 2004 she moved to Switzerland and is currently working for Nestle and is project leader researching 'Health and Chocolate', while learning French, basketball and Via Ferrata (a sort of rock climbing using ladders).

Chris Shields

Chris was the clubs Mr. Vogue, and was also Club President after Donna stepped down. Always an enthusiastic fencer he obtained Club Colours in 2005 for his role as secretary of the Club. After his PhD in Sports Psychology, in which members of the Fencing Club were guinea pigs, he started a teaching fellowship in Southampton University in October 2006.

Donna Lecky

Our Club President for 2 ½ years, Donna originally did a BSc in Biology and then a PhD on Mushrooms. During her time she arranged the infamous calendar and also competed in various Winton Cups, the highlight of her fencing was representing Ireland in Ladies Sabre at the 2004 5 Nations, earning her Full Colours. In August 2006 she started working for the HPA in Gloucester.

Martin Keating

Our club treasurer for many years, Martin did a BSc in Food Technology and MSc in Biotechnology. Currently he is studying for a BA in History in Coleraine, but sadly no longer fences.

Barbara Curran

Along with her husband help set up this website but originally did a degree in History and English, then a MA and is currently working towards a PhD at Queens while looking after their gorgeous daughter Anna.

Neil Curran

Neil was responsible for setting up his own company, and this lovely website, after his degree in computing. He currently lives in Aughnacloy along with his wife and daughter.

Mark McEvoy

Mark completed a BSc and an MSc in Biotechnology at Coleraine where he learnt to fence. He will be remembered for his warm-ups and is currently working in Sligo, where he lives with his wife Bonita.

Alistair Davidson

Al is one of our club coaches. He originally did a biology degree at queens but defected to Coleraine to do his PGCE and is currently a biology teacher in Ballymoney.

Steven Carr

Steven started in Coleraine in 1999 to study MSc in Education and Contemporary Studies. He is now an area youth worker in Belfast. While in Coleraine he fenced in the Intervarsities and regulary participated in all the Irish competitions.
